TRULY MATTERS
Truly Matters is a piece that speaks to the paradigm of showing a woman getting pleasured or pleasuring themselves. This paradigm is the desire that we have to see women in tight clothes, naked, and in sexual acts, but with the societal view that showing women in pleasure is still not very common. Why is it more common to elude to a man masturbating (American Pie), but then when it is a woman it becomes a controversial show or film. This piece speaks directly to that within a diptych the shows a close up of a woman masturbating paired with a broken, worn down door. The door is shown first giving the viewer an aesthetically pleasing, but is still an eye sore because it is not kept up. Then pairing it with with a photograph of a woman masturbating that is aesthetically pleasing as well but because it is a close up it is hard for the viewer not to feel uncomfortable. This is playing on the social context of how woman sexuality is looked at.
